Good vs. Good Enough Content

Nov 3, Thu - 2:10PM-2:50PM - Business hall

Why can’t Quantity and Quality get along? Why can’t they be friends? (At least with respect to your Marketing Content.) Guess what? They totally can! And what’s more:
What if your marketing didn’t feel like marketing… but instead felt like something people actually valued? It can do that, too. Come to this fun, inspiring session to hear best-selling author and speaker Ann Handley counsel you on creating content that’s ridiculously engaging, because your audience demands it and your organization deserves it.

You’ll leave this session equipped to:
• tell bolder (and braver!) stories, using stronger, more ripped writing and a unique point of view;
• create “best of breed” content to attract the people you want (and repel the ones you don’t);
• when to be a little outrageous (and when to dial it back);
• secrets to inspiring the best work out of writers and content creators.

The biggest missed opportunity in content marketing is playing it too safe. Let’s do this!

Cited in Forbes as the most influential woman in Social Media and recognized by ForbesWoman as one of the top 20 women bloggers, Ann Handley is the Chief Content Officer of MarketingProfs, a columnist for Entrepreneur magazine, a LinkedIn Influencer, a keynote speaker, mom, and writer. Culture Shock – How to Overcome the Common Pitfalls of Localizing Your Website

Nov 4, Fri - 1:00PM-2:00PM - Technology hall

100 territories, 7 languages, 10 key products; each with a subsite of 200 pages—with the wrong approach, this multiplies out to an overwhelming number of pages for one small team to administer (about 1.5 million pages, in case you were wondering). Find out how Adam and his team started down the path of this wrong strategy, realized the error of their ways, and developed an architecture that eliminated duplication and inefficiency, and didn’t require a battalion of content administrators to keep the website up-to-date.

Victor studied entrepreneurship at Babson College and proceeded to work in a small high-tech startup managing customer service. He learned the pleasure of building digital experiences while increasing efficiency and automating tasks and inadvertently a developer was born. Encouraged by clients and friends, Victor eventually moved into consulting, from small marketing sites to beefy platforms for startups, and now moving into machine learning, IoT, and mobile. Now, he spends most of his time architecting solutions for clients, scouring the globe for narrow skillsets to provide the best experiences the web has to offer, and spending time with his Fiancé, Nicole, and their Dog Charlie, playing golf, squash, and nerding out.

The Big Bang Project – IT Nerd and Marketing Chic: Fail or Fuse

Nov 3, Thu - 3:10PM-3:40PM - Business hall

In a survey by Accenture only 51 percent of CMOs say the CIO understands marketing requirements, while 40 percent of CIOs counter that marketing requirements change too often. If your project is to end in success and not in a 404, marketing and IT must seek to understand each other and to achieve organizational goals. Vincent looks at what it takes for marketing and IT to work successfully together, the goals and motives of IT and Marketing, real world projects, IT/marketing interactions, and the failures and successes he has seen and experienced in over 16 years in the business.

Negotiating the 'Stupid' out of UX Design

Nov 4, Fri - 1:00PM-2:00PM - Business hall

One of the most frustrating parts of any web project is the need to balance the ‘wants’ of the business with the ‘needs’ of your visitors. Depending on your internal dynamics, business desires can often override user experience to accomplish the needs of ego stroking, agenda setting, and other senseless ‘requirements’.  After having worked on many complex projects over the past 18 years, Virgil will explore the challenging dynamics between balancing internal pressures with common sense UX and teach practical approaches to avoid these situations before they occur.
